OL came back two goals and overthrew Losc in a crazy match on Monday evening (4-3). Lille failed to reach the podium and Lyon rose to 7th place in an improbable end to the season.

Le Losc missed his meeting and the scenario will not help to digest. After Brest’s draw against Nantes on Saturday, Lille had the opportunity to climb onto the Ligue 1 podium for the first time this season, two days before the end of the championship. They led 2-0 against OL on Monday evening and had everything in hand, but they ended up losing in a completely crazy end to the match (3-4).

Bafodé Diakité with a header then Edon Zhegrova on an individual feat concluded with a very nice strike from the left had in fact put LOSC on the right path. At the break, Paulo Fonseca’s men had a two-goal lead and were in control. Olympique Lyonnais, opposite, had not had a single shot on target and struggled to put the Lille defense in difficulty.

10 minutes of madness and OL 7th

But all it took was a goal from Saïd Benrahma, less than half an hour from time, to give hope to the Lyonnais, accustomed this season to reversing improbable situations. With a single goal lead against OL, nothing is ever certain this season, and the last ten minutes of the match offered a completely crazy scenario.

Wesley Fofana first equalized in the 82nd minute, after an excellent overflow from Mama Baldé. Three minutes later, Bafodé Diakité scored twice, as if to tell the Lyonnais that this time, there would be no comeback. But Alexandre Lacazette, in the 88th minute, then Mama Baldé with a header in the 92nd, brought down Losc and allowed OL to secure a 10th victory in 13 Ligue 1 matches.

In the standings, Lille therefore remains stuck at the foot of the podium, two points behind Brest, while third place promises direct qualification for the next Champions League. Lyon, for its part, moved up to 7th place (which will be European if PSG wins the Coupe de France), ahead of Rennes but under the threat of OM, who have a match in hand. Even Lens, sixth, two points behind, does not seem out of reach for an OL who can’t stop.
