Jonathan Marchessault scored a double, Jérémy Lauzon also threaded the needle, and the Nashville Predators gave themselves confidence by winning 6-4 a preseason game at the home of the Carolina Hurricanes on Wednesday night.

The 33-year-old Quebec winger scored two consecutive goals at the end of the second period, then at the start of the third, to give the Preds a four-goal lead.

Marchessault, who signed a five-year, $25 million deal in Nashville during the off-season after seven seasons in Vegas, now has three goals to his record in two preparatory games.

Juuso Parssinen, Gustav Nyquist and Dante Fabbro also scored for Andrew Brunette’s squad.

In the Canes’ defeat, Nick Suzuki’s younger brother, Ryan, opened his account in the preseason. It was fueled by Josiah Slavin, Jaccob’s brother, who is trying to land a job with Carolina.

The Kraken wins, Wright continues to impress

The Seattle Kraken crushed the Edmonton Oilers by easily winning 6-2 in front of their fans on Wednesday evening. The fourth overall pick in the 2022 draft, Shane Wright, stood out with two goals.

For the Oilers, Leon Draisaitl collected a goal and an assist.

Quebecer Olivier Rodrigue was in front of the Oilers cage. The 24-year-old goalkeeper gave up six times on 23 shots.

Quebecers Gaucher and Luneau shine

Nathan Gaucher and Tristan Luneau both had an assist in a 5-2 victory for the Anaheim Ducks against the Utah Hockey Club.

The second overall pick in the 2023 draft, Leo Carlsson, had a goal and two assists.

Nova Scotian Alex Killorn also stood out. The former Tampa Bay Lightning collected two points.

Cutter Gauthier also scored a goal.
