Italy, which will co-organize with Turkey the Euro 2032 men’s football tournament, is a candidate for the organization of the 2029 women’s European Championship, the Italian Federation (FIGC) announced on Tuesday during a meeting of its advice.
“The objective is to consolidate the development of Italian women’s football, by organizing such a major event, and to involve cities and stadiums not included in the candidacy for Euro 2032”explained the FIGC in its press release.
“From a strategic point of view, we believe that this would be an important step to allow us to hone our capacity to organize a major event in the run-up to Euro 2032,” added the president of the Italian Federation Gabriele Gravina, quoted in the press release.
Italy has already hosted the Women’s Euro in 1993. It is in competition with Germany, Portugal and a joint candidacy from Sweden and Denmark. The name of the organizing country must be revealed by UEFA in 2025.
Euro 2025 will be played in Switzerland from July 2 to 27. The Women’s National, 14e in the Fifa ranking, remains on two bitter failures, from the group stage during the last Euro, in 2022, and the 2023 World Cup.
