Yverdon Sport bounced back after the lost derby in Lausanne. The Nord-Vaudois won 1-0 against St-Gall in their Municipal Stadium. A victory that they owe, a little, to their lucky stars.
There was pressure on the shoulders of the Yverdonois this weekend. After last Sunday’s poor performance, Alessandro Mangiarratti’s men had to show a reaction. The mission is rather successful.
After a mix-up which could have been a great opportunity for the Nord-Vaudois in the 3rd minute, they allowed themselves to be dominated most of the time. They created too few chances while the St. Gallois managed to shake the net once in the 10th. Fortunately for YS, there was offside and the goal was not validated.
A few opportunities certainly presented themselves to the Yverdonnois, but it was Paul Bernardoni who kept them in the match. The goalkeeper made some big saves which will clearly be decisive.
The second half started with much the same momentum. Until the 72nd. In the Yverdon zone, Boris Cespedes received a ball. He protected it in the 16m before sending it to the center. To the right of the cage, Anthony Sauthier tried to take this leather from the head. Result: the ball ended up in the middle, on Hugo Komano who had a clear path to score. How to explain this turnaround?
The Yverdonnois were clearly in a tough place during this match. But after checkered results at the start of the championship, and especially after the lost derby, this victory feels good.
Given the progress of the meeting, this success has the appearance of a hold-up. But when we ask Mohamed Tijani if there aren’t some regrets at not having done better during the first 71 minutes, he smiles.
Coach Alessandro Mangiarratti is also satisfied with what he saw on the Municipal pitch.
In the end, the defeat against Lausanne-Sport a week earlier turned into a defeat that felt good. “Absolutely,” Tijani breathes, laughing.
