Open waters – Irishman Tom Dolan beat Frenchman Loïs Berrehar

Irish skipper Tom Dolan won the 55th edition of the Solitaire du Figaro in La Turballe (French Atlantic coast) on Thursday morning, becoming the third non-French sailor to win the race. The 37-year-old skipper of the Smurfit Kappa-Kingspan monohull crossed the line of the third and final leg early in the morning at 5:18 a.m., in seventh position, after more than three days and fifteen hours at sea.

Frenchman Loïs Berrehar (Skipper Macif 2022) won this stage, after having already pocketed the first in Gijon in Spain. But the delay accumulated at the finish of the second stage in Royan did not allow this 30-year-old sailor to add his name to the list of winners of an event in which he finished second.

Berrehar still satisfied

“It was super close. We fought until the end, honestly, it’s great! It’s an accomplishment, a lot of time, a lot of determination for moments that are rare. I was determined to win one this year, I won two,” declared Berrehar, happy despite everything.

His compatriot Gaston Morvan (Région Bretagne – CMB Performance), third in this final stage whose finish was decided by a hair’s breadth — the first four were separated by 1 hour 11 minutes — also ranks third overall. At the start in Royan on Sunday and before a p(…) - 20minutes
