There were 5 riders taking part in UCI (International Cycling Union) events in Spain last week, the 4 juniors seconded to the Stade Toulousain cycling as well as Nathan Célié in mountain biking. The U19s competed in the classic of the Spanish Basque Country (Gipuzkoa Klasikoa), an event over two days.

The day’s breakaway, which counted up to a minute in advance, was made up of 5 riders including 2 from Guidon, Tom Ferreira and Martin Cazelles. They were caught 23 kilometers from the finish, but Gabriel Layrac managed to position himself to compete for victory in the leading group. He finally finished in 10th place.

The next day, the race was locked by the leader’s team. Gabriel Layrac and Lukas Albespy finished in the peloton. Overall they ranked 11th, which is remarkable, and 26th respectively. Tom Ferreira takes 55th place, ahead of Martin Cazelles in 66th.

In mountain biking, Nathan Célié headed to the Iberian Peninsula and Bilbao to compete in a UCI event. Despite some difficulties finding the right pace at the start, he completed a perfect race to climb to the third step of the podium. He thus pocketed 15 points in the UCI mountain bike rankings.

As for Elian Pialhoux, he raced in Dordogne, at the Besse Grand Prix, an elite open event. He finished 23rd there. The next day, at Saint-Michel-Loubéjou, he still had solid resources to place 8th in the group that came out against for 4th place, after having made three solo escape laps. Julian Bach finished 26th.

The U17s in the Tarn

In U15, Ysée Moncet won in the women’s category, another great performance. The U17s were in the neighboring department to the south to compete in the third stage of the Tour du Tarn. Matyas Bingler finished 16th, well placed with the leading group before the finishing wall which was fatal to him. He nevertheless learned of his selection with the U17 team to compete in the French championships of the future.

They will take place on May 11, in Alsace. Finally, Iris Moncet finished 5th in cadet and 8th overall.

Serious and consistent training as well as compliance with instructions bear fruit on all terrains.
