Patrick Roy has no time to waste talking about blocked shots.

After his team’s heartbreaking defeat against the Carolina Hurricanes on Monday night, the head coach of the New York Islanders offered a tasty quote to members of the press who questioned him about his players’ propensity to throw in front of the throws.

“I don’t care about blocked shots,” he said, interrupting a journalist. Tell me about shooting on net and I’ll listen. Blocked shots are counted by a guy who might be sitting at McDonald’s.”

Still, Roy was relatively calm for a coach whose team had just blown a 3-0 lead.

“It’s a difficult defeat, that’s for sure,” he admitted. We had a chance to win this match. Now we have to play well at home and win the third game. That’s all.”

Roy sees Teuvo Teravainen’s power play goal in the second period as a turning point in the game.

“We received penalties which gave them momentum. We started to lose our battles afterwards and we were not able to get the puck out of our territory along the boards,” he observed.
