“I understood that something serious was going to happen”

Around 80 Marseille supporters arrived on Avenue de Muret around 11 a.m. on Sunday morning, on the sidelines of the match between Toulouse FC and Olympique de Marseille. The Marseillais then attacked this bar frequented by TFC supporters, the Mambikas. “When I saw the eyes of the young supporters present here, I understood that something serious was going to happen. I said to myself, we are dead,” confides its owner, Mambo Manchy.

The Marseillais then violently attacked a customer of the bar, just in front of its entrance. Faced with the situation and to protect themselves, Mambo Manchy then closed the metal curtain as quickly as possible, which was very quickly folded from the outside by the supporters. Chairs and furniture were placed by customers at the entrance to the restaurant in order to block them from outside.

At the same time, scenes of violence took place on Avenue de Muret. Smoke bombs were even thrown inside the bar. The situation calmed down and calmed around midday.

“Crime scene”

For about an hour, Le Mambikas and Avenue de Muret were the scene of violent scenes. According to several witnesses present on site, the Marseillais launched hostilities. The OM supporters’ bus would have indeed parked on the roundabout next door, before its occupants got out and attacked passers-by and bar customers. A situation which could even have become “a crime scene” for Mambo Manchy.

“If the Marseillais knew the location, it would have been much more serious. The TFC supporters were hiding behind, on the other side, on the restaurant terrace. Fortunately the Marseillais did not also arrive on that side, otherwise a tragedy could have occurred,” says Mambo Manchy.

Very popular with TFC supporters before the team’s matches, the bar is located a few steps from the Stadium. The establishment would thus have been targeted by the Marseillais. “I don’t think they arrived here by chance. I think they knew very well that they were going to find TFC supporters inside the bar,” confides Mambo Manchy.
