Bayern Munich accelerates for Ralf Rangnick
Descriptive text here

In its quest for a successor to Thomas Tuchel, Bayern Munich is not determined to waste time. The leaders of the Bavarian club had established a list of candidates for the coaching position several weeks ago. As indicated in our columns, Zinédine Zidane was one of them. Unless there is a surprise, the 1998 world champion will not be the chosen one. Bayern Munich, in the first discussions, did not perceive in the former Real Madrid coach (51 years old), free of any contract, an absolute desire to join Bavaria.

In this context, and while Unai Emery, another target, must extend his contract in the coming days with Aston Villa, the Bavarian leaders have explored two other avenues. The first leads to Roberto De Zerbi (44 years old). But the Brighton coach intends to come with a very substantial staff and has high salary demands.

The second emerges as more likely: Ralf Rangnick (65 years old). Discussions between the management of Bayern Munich and the Austrian coach have increased. The architect of the Red Bull project (in Leipzig, where he notably held positions as coach and sports director between 2012 and 2020) is seen by Bavarian decision-makers as the appropriate short and medium-term solution to occupy the position. And this, with the perspective of then convincing Xabi Alonso, who has decided to extend with Bayer Leverkusen, to accept the position of coach of Bayern Munich in the more distant future.
