NHL: Cole Perfetti and the Jets are not close to an agreement

It appears Winnipeg Jets restricted free agent forward Cole Perfetti will not be on the ice when the team begins training camp.

The two parties are not at all close to an agreement, reports TSN Wednesday.

“It’s tricky,” insider Darren Dreger explained during a segment ofInsider Trading. Perfetti is feeling good, has trained well this summer and is looking forward to working with head coach Scott Arniel.

“But there is a significant gap in this negotiation right now. Unless something changes in the near future, Perfetti will be out for a while.”

Perfetti had 19 goals and 19 assists in 71 games last season, but he only played in one of the Jets’ five playoff games.

Before his breakout last season, the player drafted by the Jets 10th overall in 2020 had been slowed by injuries in his first two campaigns.

One year for Kaliyev

The Los Angeles Kings have signed forward Arthur Kaliyev to a one-year, $825,000 contract, Darren Dreger confirmed.

Kaliyev still did not have a contract for the next campaign, after his entry-level contract ended.

A second-round pick of the Kings in 2019, Kaliyev had 15 points in 51 games this season, scoring seven goals along the way.

The 23-year-old forward has 35 goals and 71 points in 188 games in a Kings uniform.
