“Act of revenge”

Russian Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova strongly condemned the attack, calling it an “act of revenge” against the correspondent. “We call on international organizations and human rights groups to immediately and strongly condemn this new brutal murder of a Russian journalist,” she said.

According to the New York-based Committee to Protect Journalists (CPJ), at least 15 journalists have been killed while covering the conflict in Ukraine.
