Burkina Faso and Ivory Coast easily took the three points ahead of Malawi (3-1) and Chad (2-0) on the second day of the CAN 2025 qualifiers. For their part, beaten on the first day, Benin and Cape Verde got back on track against Libya (2-1) and Mauritania (2-0).
After having snatched a draw (1-1) Last Thursday on the Senegal pitch, Burkina Faso kept up its momentum and comfortably won against Malawi (3-1) in Group L. Since the Stallions do not have an approved stadium, the match was played at the Stade du 26 Mars in Bamako where Brama Traoré’s men felt at home. Lassina Traoré scored twice in less than five minutes (35th and 38th) stunning the Malawians who were far from ridiculous on the pitch. The Stallions can even thank their goalkeeper Herve Koffi, who was imperial in his goals to keep Malawi in check, who had the opportunities to stay in the match. But more realistically, Burkina will widen the gap thanks to Hassane Bandé (60th) before Zeliat Nkhoma saved the Flames’ honor (80th).
In group C, after its defeat against Egypt (0-3)Cape Verde recovered well by beating Mauritania (2-0) in Praia. Ryan Mendes scored twice in this match (28th from a penalty and 75th).
