On January 7, 2025, as part of a project aimed at promoting moment of sharing between residents of the René Castel residence and the CM1 class of Vassy's school (Valdallière), in Calvados, an activity of making king cakes was organized at the retirement home, with some entertainment, followed by a snack.
This is a project led by two students, Céline Faucon and Claire Denis, in the second year of a technical-commercial BTS at the agricultural campus of champs de Tracyin Vire Normandy.
Bring generations together around a common activity
Indeed, during their studies and to obtain their end-of-year diploma, one of the tests is the project management. They had to create a press release for this day, as well as a poster to explain to the children what they were going to do this afternoon.
Their evaluation will be based on the one hand on the documents they have produced and on the conduct of the project; whether it’s the idea, implementing all the steps, the project itself…
We had the idea of the retirement home because we wanted to share a moment of exchange with elderly people. We first contacted the host of the residence, Marie Pannel. And it was with her that we decided to include the school in this project. Ms. Fouques, the CM1 teacher, immediately responded favorably.
“When they proposed this activity to the school, I jumped at the opportunity,” says the latter. “It was a children's request to do an activity with the elderly people in the retirement home. »
-A day that was unanimous
The students came to school in the morning to prepare for the day. “They had prepared a class activity around the different stages of the Galette des Rois recipe. This allowed a premier contact with the girls and the children were able to ask questions,” explains Sandra Fouques.
In the afternoon, the students walked to the residence, where they made the cakes with the residents. During the cooking time, they made board games together, from coloring and an activity of macrame.
“The girls had planned everything” explains Sandra Fouques, delighted with how it went. “Besides, everyone was happy and when it was time to leave, there were some who would have liked to stay. »
Also present were the teacher and BTS comrades, who came to lend a hand to Claire and Céline. The afternoon concluded with the tasting of the pancakes, which made unanimity.
“It was a good afternoon, it allowed us to get a foothold in the retirement home again, with the facilitator we would like to put things in place regularly », rejoices the teacher.
Ditto for the students. “We are delighted because it was something that was done before… And with covid, everything stopped. This activity made it possible to restart everything, it's even more rewarding. »
