Champions League – D8: Feyenoord Rotterdam supporters banned from traveling to

A decree from the Ministry of the Interior published this Wednesday in the Official Journal prohibits the travel of Feyenoord Rotterdam supporters to this Wednesday January 29 in the Champions League.

From Liverpool to Feyenoord, the news is not waiting for the Mastiffs to feel sorry for themselves, they who were defeated by Mohamed Salah's Reds this Tuesday (2-1). In a week, on Wednesday January 29, they will have to try to return to success on the European scene during an opposition with Feyenoord Rotterdam, their final opponent in the Champions League league phase. The Dutch, who will take to the pitch at the Decathlon Arena – Stade Pierre Mauroy, will not be able to count on the support of their supporters.

Their presence is “prohibited between French road, rail, port and airport border crossing points, on the one hand, and the municipalities of Villeneuve-d'Ascq, Lezennes and Lille (North), on the other hand”between January 27 (midnight) and January 29, wrote Bruno Retailleau, in a decree published in the Official Journal this Wednesday. The Minister of the Interior fears
“a real and serious risk of clashes between supporters of the two clubs” while
“3,600 supporters including 500 identified as being at risk […] while only 2,600 places were allocated to the visiting club” were ready to travel to Lille.

French authorities discuss travel by the Dutch club “frequently a source of disturbances to public order due to the violent behavior of certain supporters or individuals claiming to be supporters of this team”. They take cases from Lille (the behavior of certain supporters at home) and the Netherlands (incidents occurring in 2006 in , in 2022 in ) as examples to explain this travel ban which will therefore apply from Monday.
