Last summer, OM made Lilian Brassier one of its priorities. The defender was coming off an impressive season under the colors of Stade Brestois. But now, joining an institution like Olympique de Marseille is never easy to manage, especially with a coach like Roberto De Zerbi. The Italian quickly saw certain limits in the native of Argenteuil. Result, very little playing time for Lilian Brassier, asked to leave the ship this winter. But it remains to be seen where the 25-year-old central defender will bounce back. Fortunately for him, he has no shortage of offers to continue developing his career at the highest level.
Brassier, people are rushing but…
According to information from The TeamRC Lens but especially Stade Rennais are in fact strongly interested in the possibility of recruiting Brassier. The OM player is even a priority for the Rennes management, convinced that the former Brest player could be the rare pearl sought by Jorge Sampaoli. However, the French media specifies that Stade Rennais has not yet made an official offer. The only club that has done so comes from Germany and if their name has not been leaked, it could be Wolfsburg or even Stuttgart.
Note that if Brassier were to leave Canebière, an agreement must be found between Marseille and Brest, because the defender was loaned for a season by the Breton club with a compulsory purchase option from next summer. If the player leaves this winter, the loan must therefore be ended and his option exercised before the end of January. The Team understands that for the moment, Brest is very attentive to what OM will offer, because the player’s transfer compensation (nearly 12 million euros) must be included in the next accounting year. Grégory Lorenzi, sports director of Brest, is in contact with intermediaries to find a solution. But nothing seems to be a foregone conclusion.
