Halfway through the Ligue 2 season, the bookmakers have made their decision. Currently second in the sports championship, Paris FC is the big favorite for promotion to Ligue 1, tied with leader Lorient, both rated at 1.40. The first owes a renewed ambition to the announcement of the arrival of a new shareholder (the Arnault family with support from Red Bull), while the other aims to return to the elite from the first season of its descent.
FC Metz, fourth in the standings but with its experience in Ligue 1, completes the podium of favorites with odds of 2.25. Dunkirk, surprising second, follows with odds of 3.00, the operators seeming more measured about the chances of the northern club remaining at the top of the table.
Several credible contenders but two favorites that emerge
A group of outsiders then emerges, made up of Amiens, Annecy, Guingamp and Laval, all at 7.00. If Annecy and Laval are at the top of the ranking, bookmakers remain cautious about their ability to go the distance. Bastia and Clermont bring up the rear of the credible contenders with a rating of 10, while Rodez, last season's surprise team, is rated at 13; it appears to be a less likely option but one to follow nonetheless.
This hierarchy established by the bookmakers clearly favors the experience and financial means of the clubs, beyond just the current ranking. Remember that the first two will advance to the elite, while the next three will compete in a play-off, first between themselves, then against the sixteenth in Ligue 1.
