Arsenal manager Mikel Arteta has reversed his decision to replace Martin Odegaard in the last match.
Arsenal failed to take advantage of Liverpool's misstep this Saturday in the Premier League. While the Reds had to fight to snatch a point against Fulham (2-2), the Gunners failed to thwart the trap set by Everton, settling for a goalless draw (0-0). Result of the races, the Londoners, third, remain six lengths behind the Liverpool leader.
In addition to this frustrating result, the match was marked by the replacement of Martin Odegaard shortly after the hour mark, a choice which raised many questions. But coach Mikel Arteta quickly clarified the situation in a post-match press conference, not without a dig sent to the media.
Arteta justifies Odegaard's departure
“Replacing Odegaard? It was a tactical decision. No injuries or anything else. But I understand how it works with the media… If Ethan Nwaneri comes in and scores, it's winning coaching. If he doesn't, you're blamed for taking out your captain. Football is like that »declared the Spaniard.
Arsenal will face Crystal Palace next Saturday in the Premier League, after facing the Eagles in the League Cup on Wednesday. The Gunners will be keen to return to victory after two consecutive draws in the league.
