Former Manchester City player Mikhail Kavelashvili elected president of Georgia

Former international footballer with Manchester City, Mikhail Kavelashvili (53 years old, 46 caps and 9 goals, between 1991 and 2002), chosen by the pro-Russian party in power, was elected president of Georgia on Saturday by the boycotted Parliament by the opposition. The only name in the running, the co-founder in 2022 of Power to the People, a populist party with anti-Western rhetoric, known for its nationalist and anti-LGBT positions, collected 224 votes out of the 225 cast.
