Albert Riera: “I'm sure that in the end we will be champions”

While he was well back in the title race, the former coach of the Girondins de Bordeaux, Albert Rierawas once again left behind by several clubs. Indeed, Celje is eight points behind leader Olimpija, who is six points ahead of Maribor and Koper. Despite everything, the former Bordeaux coach wants to be positive, and assures that he will be Champion of Slovenia at the end of the season.

“In the last match, we conceded two goals from zero chances. Our 26 chances should have been enough to win by seven goals, but we weren't. That's why I told the boys to prepare for 46 in the future. It doesn't matter if we are at 7, 8 or 11 points. The second part of the season will be very long, we will definitely be in the title match […] I am sure that in the end we will be champions. Celje and I have already succeeded. I am the only coach in the league who has already been a champion. That's why I can talk about it. Others need to be more careful. When we talk about the title, as we are champions, the last and penultimate in the championship wanted to win against us. If these teams played like this every round, they wouldn't just have nine or ten points. I like challenges like that, they always see us as a challenge and try to beat us. I enjoy the pressure and I pass it on to the players. I am completely satisfied with the execution of the plan and the effort of the players.”
