PSG attacking midfielder Lee Kang-in will be one of the co-presidents of the South Korean team during the next Kings World Cup, the 7-a-side football competition dear to Gerard Piqué which will be held next January in Italy.
After a marathon 2023-2024 season, with no less than 20 matches played with his country (plus 36 with PSG), Lee Kang-in is much more focused on his club this season and has also participated in all 18 PSG matches since the start of the new 2024-2025 financial year, even if he has not always been a starter.
A true star in his country, Lee Kang-in has just joined the Kings League, the 7-a-side football competition with eccentric rules created by Gerard Piqué. Last summer, 32 teams from around the world competed in Mexico and France was represented by the team called “Foot2Rue” including Samir Nasri and Jérémy Menez.
Little chance that Lee Kang-in will participate in the Kings World Cup
From January 1 to 12 in Italy, the Kings League will launch its first real World Cup with 16 national teams, including South Korea, which will be led by Lee Kang-in, but also the former Manchester United player, Park Ji-sung, as well as three Korean streamers.
If the presidents of the Kings League teams mainly have a representative role, they are sometimes called upon to play and take penalties. But in the case of Lee Kang-in, there is little chance that he will be present in Italy next January. PSG must travel to Doha on January 5, 2025 to face AS Monaco in the Champions Trophy and will then play against ASSE at the Parc on the weekend of January 11-12.
Two matches which fall right during the Kings World Cup, the final of which will be played in the Juventus stadium. It is hard to imagine PSG and Luis Enrique authorizing their player to go to the other side of the Alps for a fantasy competition, which obviously does not fit into the FIFA calendar at all.
