According to Spanish media Relevo, Real Madrid are considering the arrival of Portuguese international Diogo Dalot among their various options.
Portugal and Real Madrid are a long story. While it began in the 1990s with a certain Carlos Secretario, the most beautiful pages of it were written during the following decade, with the memorable passages of players like Luis Figo, Cristiano Ronaldo, Pepe, Fabio Coentrão or Ricardo Carvalho in the Spanish capital.
And if since the departure of CR7 to Turin in 2018, Real Madrid has moved away from Portugal somewhat, the legendary Spanish club could return to its good old habits, while Diogo Dalot would be in the management's favor.
Diogo Dalot followed by Real Madrid
Indeed, according to the Spanish media Relevo, the Portuguese international would be one of Real Madrid's main options to strengthen the corridor. If the priority remains the recruitment of Trent Alexander-Arnold, who will be at the end of his contract by June 2025, the alternative Diogo Dalot has reportedly gained momentum in recent weeks.
On the other hand, the situation of the Manchester United player is very different from that of his Liverpool counterpart. For good reason, if the latter will not cost transfer compensation at the end of the current season, Diogo Dalot has a contract running until 2028 with the Red Devils. Under these conditions, the British club would like to recover at least 50 million euros in the event of the transfer of its right side.
Ruben Amorim, key factor in the operation?
The call of a prestigious club like Real Madrid can be tempting. However, a departure of Diogo Dalot from Manchester United, where he has managed to establish himself over the years, is not really up to date. For good reason, the Portuguese right-back has just welcomed, to his club, his compatriot Ruben Amorim, with whom the flow seems to have already passed.
Beyond the praise given by the player to his coach at the time of his signing for Manchester United, Ruben Amorim recently recalled the importance of Diogo Dalot within his squad. “He is a very good player, very powerful, who can play on both sides. It's perfect because you can put it in different positions. A very good player who can help the team and who is a real team player. It is very important to us”he said of the 25-year-old Portuguese player. What would encourage him to stay?
