Once the decision behind closed doors was official, the Herbiers Vendée Foot club communicated on its social networks, showing its disappointment.

“After various meetings between the two clubs, the FFF – French Football Federation and the Gironde Prefecture, the latter validated the match without spectators, despite all the efforts of the VHF so that our supporters could attend the match. The Coupe de France creates moments of sharing and celebration on and off the pitch. We regret that football is penalized in this way”

The President of Herbiers Vendée Foot, Dominique Vincendeaufor Ouest-France, also spoke a few hours later, showing himself as saddened as he was revolted.

“Football is made to bring people together. There, they proved that for them, it was the opposite. Les Herbiers took 40,000 people to the Stade de France, and the Gironde prefecture is not capable of controlling two kops of the Girondins de Bordeaux. I am terribly disappointed, saddened. For me, this is a complete misunderstanding. There were plenty of solutions for football to win in all of this. For example, reverse the match and play it at Les Herbiers. Even if we did it three days before, we would have had 120 volunteers, 4,000 people, we would have had a party.”
