In difficulty, this Portuguese coach gets out of it and heads towards a historic title

On the night of Tuesday to Wednesday, the Botafogo of Portuguese coach Artur Jorge put an end to a delicate period at the best of times.

However, a failure was written. Widely leading the championship a few weeks ago, the Botafogo club, coached by Portuguese coach Artur Jorge, recently experienced a period of trouble which led to its fall in the standings. With their backs against the wall, the club based in Rio de Janeiro finally managed to get out of it in the best possible way, so as to regain control of the championship.

A delicate period for Artur Jorge's Botafogo

If it had its destiny in its hands just a few days before the end of the championship, the Botafogo club played to scare itself. The Brazilian club has in fact had no less than three consecutive draws during the month of November, which allowed its competitor Palmeiras to resurface. With a much better dynamic than Botafogo, Verdão has had a string of successes to regain the lead in the championship, just three days before the end of the championship.

In these conditions, the trip from Botafogo to Palmeiras, for the 36th day of the Brasileirão, promised to be particularly delicate for Artur Jorge's men. On one side, players from Palmeiras in full swing after having made a real comeback to the top of the ranking, and on the other, those from Botafogo in full doubt, after having stumbled in the final sprint.

The Portuguese coach pulls out all the stops

And yet, it was the Botafogo players who got the better of their competitor. Thanks in particular to two well-negotiated set pieces, the visitors finally won on the pitch of Abel Ferreira's Palmeiras this Wednesday (1-3). An unexpected success to say the least, taking into account the form of each of the two teams, and the enthusiasm caused by the meeting near the Palmeiras stadium.

Artur Jorge's men therefore came out miraculously, and can once again consider winning the prestigious title of champion of Brazil. Two short days before the end of the championship, the Botafogo club is no less than three points ahead of its latest victim.

A successful start to the week, which could put Botafogo players in the best conditions as an equally important deadline approaches. Saturday evening, at 9 p.m., Artur Jorge and his team will play the very first Copa Libertadores final in the club's history, against Atlético Mineiro. It remains to be seen whether they will manage to obtain a first title in the competition, before trying to validate their first place on the national scene.
