Walid Acherchour and Damien Perquis looked back on ASSE's very important victory against Montpellier in AfterFoot this weekend. Transcription.
The Cauldron, this 12th Man
Damien Perquis: “Saint-Etienne has a Stadium and an Audience which brings something extra which brings additional strength. An asset that the other candidates for remaining in Ligue 1 do not have. I think that their retention will require this type of performance at home. The Public is truly an asset. But you also have to be able to bring this audience with you.
In the first period, if Montpellier had managed to open the scoring, notably through Nordin at the start of the match, there was no photo. But I think Olivier Dall'Oglio had a speech at half-time asking his players to take the Public with them. Bouchouari's goal rewarded a good return from ASSE after leaving the locker room.
I think that Geoffroy-Guichard is a stage where the Public is scary. This audience must be scary. And every team must think that coming to Saint-Etienne is difficult. It is a real twelfth man who is behind ASSE. I'm not saying that the result is logical but there is this extra soul in Geoffroy-Guichard which will bring them points this season. It wasn't a three-point game, but already a six-point game there. We definitely shouldn't lose and what's more, they won so it's superb.
Bouchouari at the beginning, it was very complicated. Ultimately, it is in Ligue 1 that he is most comfortable. In Ligue 2, he was thrown into the air. Perhaps more suited to Ligue 1 football.”
ASSE getting better and better?
Walid Acherchour : “This Saturday, I found ASSE really in difficulty. Montpellier would have deserved better. But ASSE materialized the improvements that we had seen against OL. They had been very far from being ridiculous in the Derby. I'm happy for little Bouchouari. He had a great match against Lyon and he scored a very good goal. We had Joao Neves with PSG, he scored a similar volley.
