During a youth football match in Spain, the mother of one of the players attacked the referee by slapping him on the pitch. This violent gesture, filmed and widely broadcast, was condemned by the clubs concerned, recalling the importance of respect and fair play in sport.
A new act of violence against an official during a football match. At the end of a match between children aged 10 and 11 in Spain, a mother from the visiting team entered the field of the municipal stadium, then slapped the referee officiating during this match.
Surely annoyed by her son's defeat, the mother was sharply rejected by the referee of the match before returning, once again, to insult him. The attack was filmed by a spectator and for 24 hours, the video has been making the rounds in the Spanish media.
“Strongly condemned any act of violence on football fields”
The two teams published a press release in the hours following this meeting to condemn this gesture. RDC Espanyol Albolote “strongly condemned any acts of violence on football fields, particularly those directed against referees and other agents involved. In recent times, we have witnessed regrettable situations that go against the values that football should promote: respect, sportsmanship and coexistence.”
“We cannot tolerate this behavior tarnishing what should be a celebration of effort, talent and unity,” we could also read in this press release.
Alhendín's team, for its part, “rejected any form of violence in football, safe and off the field.”
