This weekend, at the end of the 12th day of Ligue 1, the RC Strasbourg suffered another setback against OGC Nice (1-2). After the meeting, the coach Liam Rosenior did not hide his frustration, pointing out his team's defensive errors.
An RC Strasbourg losing momentum
Despite a promising start to the season, the RC Strasbourg is now caught in a negative spiral. For four matches, the Strasbourg side have struggled to find their way to victory in Ligue 1. After a defeat against AS Saint-Étienne (0-2) and a setback against AS Monaco (1-3), the club lost again, this time against OGC Nice.
During this meeting, the players of Liam Rosenior yet started the match well. Dilane Bakwa opened the scoring, allowing Strasbourg to take the lead. However, after the break, the Alsatian defense collapsed. Melvin Bard equalized for Nice before an unfortunate own goal from Abakar Sylla sealed the defeat for the Strasbourg side.
Rosenior criticizes defense and announces changes
After the match, Liam Rosenior did not mince his words in a press conference: “ We must not embellish reality. We made big mistakes at key moments, and it's frustrating. It's up to me to put this right. We have to be better in these situations. We concede too many goals, and it costs points. The second goal comes from an individual error. If we make the right decisions, we will win our matches. »
The coach also recognized the commitment of his players: “ Tactically, they did good things, but it was in the decisive moments that things did not go well. I am disappointed for them, but I am at their side to work and progress. »
To remedy these defensive shortcomings, the RC Strasbourg plans to strengthen its squad during the winter transfer window. Among the avenues mentioned is the Swedish defender Nils Zätterström, currently at Malmö FF. Discussions are reportedly underway between the parties to finalize the transfer.
