Alessandro Del Piero wants to take over as head of the Federation

On February 3, the Italian Federation (FIGC) will elect its new president and it is not certain whether Gabriele Gravina, current head of Italian football, will remain in his post. The latter should indeed run for a third term, but in recent hours a name has emerged capable of challenging him and perhaps even beating him. It is that of Alessandro Del Piero, ready to enter the list of candidates for the most coveted seat in Italian football. At the moment there is no official announcement, but the candidacy of the former Juventus captain and Nazionale legend could be official within a few days.

According to the newspaper of The RepublicAlessandro Del Piero has already been approached to study his possible availability. The Italian daily adds that he would be determined to take up the challenge in good conditions. A former footballer of his level, world champion in 2006 with Marcelo Lippi's Italy, would certainly have the necessary requirements to play such an important role, even at international level. With him there could be pressure from the Football Association, coaches or perhaps even part of Serie A, which has often found itself at war with Gravina. In particular, Claudio Lotito, one of Gravina's most ardent enemies, is said to be pushing for Del Piero's election.
