In the summer of 2023, Barça broke the bank to afford the services of one of the greatest hopes in Brazilian football, the young striker Vitor Roque. Finally, Auriverde arrived a few months later, in January, in a club in sporting difficulty marked by a conflict between coach Xavi Hernandez and his management, in particular president Joan Laporta and sports director Deco. With few opportunities to prove, the 19-year-old Brazilian finally decided to leave the Blaugrana to sign on loan with Real Betis, far from the Catalan hustle and bustle.
“I’m really happy to be here now.”
And while he has had a good start to the season with five goals in 14 appearances, he spoke about his particularly complicated first months in the Barcelona jersey: “I was in Brazil and I didn't know if I was coming or not. I found out I was coming to Spain just a week before, while I was on vacation, without having any idea. When I arrived, I had few opportunities and no time to adapt. I went through some tough times there, but it taught me a lesson. I'm really happy to be here now. What I learned there helps me today and I am very happy“, he explained in an interview with official Betis television. It now remains to be seen whether he will have a second chance to prove that he has his place with Barça.
