Mercato: Gyökeres, Araujo, Quenda, three tracks to forget for PSG in January?

Associated since last summer with several players playing in Portugal, PSG may have difficulty recruiting Viktor Gyökeres, Tomas Araujo and Geovany Quenda during the winter transfer window.

The winter transfer window will open in a month and a half and PSG would have the ambition to recruit a winger or even a central defender according to L'Equipe. Since last summer, PSG has been regularly associated with three very successful players from the Portuguese championship: the Swedish goleador from Sporting CP Viktor Gyökeres, the Portuguese central defender from Benfica Tomas Araujo and the young Portuguese winger from Sporting CP Geovany Quenda.

Interests which date from last summer and which are not really surprising since PSG has drawn a lot from Portugal in recent years, a trend which has been reinforced in 2022 with the arrival at the club of Luis Campos, who notably enlisted Vitinha (Porto), Gonçalo Ramos (Benfica) and more recently João Neves (Benfica).

Gyökeres wants to finish the season at Sporting CP

Already the author of 23 goals with Sporting CP this season, Gyökeres scored again this weekend with Sweden against Milan Skriniar's Slovakia. But the Swedish striker assured local media Fotbollskanalen that he had no intention of moving during the winter transfer window: “It’s not something I think about. Of course I want to play the whole season at Sporting. I'm having fun there, so I have no pressure to possibly leave in the future. We'll see when the time comes. »

If many imagine him joining Ruben Amorim at Manchester United next summer, Gyökeres intends to take his time before deciding and PSG is one of the clubs which are carefully monitoring his development, even if Luis Enrique does not seem to be campaigning specifically for his arrival .

One thing seems certain, the Swede will not move this winter and it will be necessary to spend at least between 60 and 70 million euros next summer to recruit him. In any case, this is the promise that Sporting made to its player, who has a higher clause, set at €100 million.

PSG does not let go of Araujo, but…

Another player from the Portuguese championship tracked by PSG, Tomas Araujo. The 22-year-old central defender has established himself this season at Benfica and will normally celebrate his first selection this evening with Portugal against Croatia. According to the Portuguese daily Record, PSG is not letting go of this track, but Benfica does not intend to sell this winter.

Only way to afford the player in January? Pay the €100 million of his release clause, which does not seem to be in the plans of PSG, nor of the Premier League clubs who are courting him. For those who doubted it, Record confirms in any case that PSG is closely following this matter, which we will probably hear about again next summer, especially if Milan Skriniar leaves the club before then.

Manchester United wants to recruit Quenda from January

Finally, PSG has also been interested since last summer in Geovany Quenda, the great hope of Portuguese football. Aged only 17, this left-handed winger has just been called up by Roberto Martinez for Portugal's match against Croatia and if he plays, he will become the youngest player to debut for the Portuguese selection, ahead of Paulo Futre.

According to the Portuguese sports daily A Bola, Ruben Amorim's Manchester United wants ” to book “ Quenda this winter by recruiting him in January before letting him quietly finish the season at Sporting CP. The Red Devils were already thinking about him before recruiting Amorim and their idea would be to beat the competition from other clubs from January.

Like Gyökeres and Araujo, the young Quenda has a release clause set at €100 million in his contract and Manchester United reportedly intend to make a first offer in January of more than €40 million with the idea of leaving him in loaned to his current club until the end of the season. Enough to convince Lisbon leaders?
