While Olympique Lyonnais is threatened with falling into Ligue 2, due to shaky financial health, some observers seem to think that Qatar would not be foreign to this perilous situation.
OL are in the red. Yesterday, the DNCG harshly sanctioned the Rhone club for glaring failures in its duties in terms of budgetary balance: control of the payroll, ban on recruiting and above all demotion as a precautionary measure at the end of the current sporting season.
This sanction therefore means that at the end of this exercise, whatever its ranking in L1 (Lyon is currently 5th), the Rhone club will go down to L2 if its economic situation has not improved. If John Textor will hold a press conference this morning to explain himself, the Mercato could be a solution to revive OL's accounts.
“The DNCG is subject to external influences”
Beyond all these aspects, some observers seem to think that Qatar would not be foreign to this perilous situation. The cause? Textor's multiple barbs towards the club-state status of PSG, which reigns supreme over Ligue 1 thanks to its financial doping.
“I don't master the OL environment well enough, but isn't Textor the DaGrosa of Lyon? It’s going to be funny tomorrow morning when Textor says that it’s all Qatar’s fault,” quipped Emmanuel Merceron last night on X. Romain Molina, for his part, suggested external pressure on the DNCG from high places: “All OL players have been on sale as announced for a while. But hey, we are still going to do a big communication act to sell dreams and cry conspiracy (even if the DNCG is indeed subject to external influences, that's is true). » We expect Textor's next speech at the end of the morning.
