OM: Bernard Tapie will have his statue at the Vélodrome

Bernard Tapie, former boss of OM who died in 2021, will soon have his statue on the square in front of the Vélodrome. Its inauguration is expected in the coming months.

Three years after the death of Bernard Tapie, Olympique de will pay a vibrant tribute to its former “Boss”. Indeed, RMC reveals that a statue bearing the likeness of the former president of OM will soon be installed on the square in front of the Orange Vélodrome. 3,000 donors mobilized, including of course the Marseille club, and the statue was able to be created. It is also ready, as Laurent Tapie confirmed to RMC.

An inauguration planned for 2025

“The statue is ready. I am waiting for feedback from the Town Hall regarding work to strengthen the Esplanade in front of the Stade Vélodrome, where we want to install the monument. According to the design office consulted by the City, it would be too risky, given the weight of the monument, to put it in place before this work is completed in the spring. I will therefore meet the Town Hall teams in order to establish a date for implementation and inauguration” Bernard Tapie’s son told the radio. The official date of the inauguration is therefore still unknown but it will take place in 2025. A moment that the Tapie family and OM supporters will impatiently await in order to pay the most beautiful tribute to their ex-president.
