This Wednesday evening, RC Lens was announced as being interested in the profile of Gift Orban. The young Nigerian striker from Olympique Lyonnais, in difficulty since his arrival, could be a good move to try for this winter.
Above all, this showed that the Sang et Or were looking for a new striker for this winter, to the delight of the Lensois supporters. Indeed, the northern club has the fourth worst attack in the championship with only 12 goals.
The Sang et Or must strengthen their offensive sector
Lens remains high in the standings (8th in Ligue 1), thanks to an iron defense, which is the second best defense in Ligue 1, and the best goalkeeper in Europe, Brice Samba. However, to aim higher and try to secure a European place at the end of the season, better offensive efficiency is expected.
At least one offensive reinforcement was therefore expected for this winter from the supporters but it might not take this turn. Indeed, Sébastien Denis, editor-in-chief of Foot Mercato, responded to the Gift Orban rumor in Lens.
Gift Orban is not targeted by Lens
He assures that the Nigerian striker is “not really a priority track for RC Lens”. The journalist even adds that Will Still has not asked to recruit a number 9 this winter “unless there is a crazy opportunity”.
The Belgian coach would like to trust and capitalize on his two attackers, Rayan Fofana and Kembo Diliwidi. The latter two are very young players, both aged 18 and who recently signed their first professional contract.
Will Still doesn't want a winter side attacker
A very surprising decision on the part of Will Still, who asks questions. The news site on the Sang et Or, AllezLens, wonders if “Will Still is under pressure from the management of the club” or if he is trying to “drown the fish in order to work more calmly on possible recruitment.
The suspense is therefore total in this matter but concern could quickly increase among Lensois supporters if this decision were to materialize this winter.
Passionate about sport and from Toulouse, I am of course a supporter of the great TFC, which has more titles than OM and OL combined over the last ten years.
