Traveling to Toulouse this Friday, November 15, 2024, the Minister of Sports, Gil Avérouscame to visit the construction site of the future City of Swimmingat the Alfred Nakache swimming pool on Ramier Island. In particular, he was able to discover the infrastructures of the club TOEC dolphins alongside its mascot, Leon Marchand and Jean-Luc Moudenc, the mayor of Toulouse. The opportunity to react to the tweet of the quadruple Olympic champion.
“We misunderstood each other”
Often described as a discreet profile outside the pools, Léon Marchand knows how to make himself heard just as well. At the announcement of l’abandon of two additional hours of weekly sport by the government, the quadruple medalist of the JO from Paris reacted on X with a simple smiley de clown. Hinting at his dissatisfaction with this decision.
In his stronghold, at the Dauphins du TOEC, the Minister of Sports wanted to clarify this misunderstanding.
We were able to chat with Léon, we misunderstood each other. Of course we don't want to abandon this project. As Minister of Sports, you can imagine that this is not what we want. The project is currently being re-evaluated. The experiment was very unequal depending on the establishments, because some did not have the necessary resources, others were not volunteers. We are reworking it locally.
“It’s not two hours of PE”
Léon Marchand was not the only one to take the information the wrong way. Many Internet users also found themselves incomprehensible about such a decision. “I want to reassure Léon Marchand, and all those who perhaps did not understand as he did. I think everything is clear now,” he added.
According to Gil Avérous, these two hours will indeed be on the extracurricular periodsupervised by external speakers.
“It’s not two hours of PE with a school teacher. These are clubs, community sports associations which will come to hold sessions in addition to the three hours imposed in the current program,” concluded the Minister.
