Young OM – Gautreau: “Papin is abusive in his internal recriminations”

In an interview given to ProvenceJean-Pierre Papin ignited the powder behind the Olympian scenes. The former striker, legend of OM, denounced the interventionism of certain managers in his duties as coach of the reserve team. He also confirmed that he was disappointed not to take over from Gennaro Gattuso.

On RMC SportFlorent Gautreau cut to the chase. The journalist thinks that JPP does not have the level to occupy the position of coach, which would explain the reaction of the managers: “Everyone recognizes that he has great human qualities and that he is a very good guy. He is someone who had the humility to accept being in reserve. Trusting veterans in big clubs is very good. But it has to be based on skills. Papin, his experiences at the highest level were not great”he confided.

“Papin knows he has a certain weight in

Florent Gautreau thinks that JPP knowingly brought the matter out: “You have to know when you don't have the skills to be a good coach. We go over his head because he doesn't make decisions or doesn't work on certain players as he should. People like Benatia must tell themselves that we have to go faster, that we have to work differently. He chose something a bit procedural, he knows that he has a certain weight in Marseille and he knows that it's the kind of thing that can get Marseille talking when things are going a little less well. »

The journalist thinks that the situation is not as unfair as it seemed: “Having talked about it, I think Papin is being a little abusive in his internal recriminations, I'm not talking about reporting to HR, that's special. But on a sporting level, as a coach, I think Papin was a huge player. He's not a great coach. He continues to demonstrate it, both at the level at which he coaches and how it happens. » Finally, he advises OM to find former players who are more talented for the position: “You have a way of finding guys in the former Marseillais who have real skills, even diplomas. For Papin it’s more complicated”he concluded.

Pablo Longoria would have planned to decide on the matter on Monday. Provence affirms that JPP could have led the reserve team for the last time against Corte (0-2) on Saturday.
