Before signing his first professional contract with Barça in October 2023, Lamine Yamal could have signed freely with PSG, who had made him a big offer according to the Catalan press.
European champion last summer with Spain and the greatest hope in world Football, Lamine Yamal (17 years old) has amazed Barça for months and this week won the Kopa Trophy awarded by France Football and rewarding the best player in under 21 years old. 8th in the general ranking for the 2024 Ballon d'Or, the brilliant left-hander is set for a huge career.
In recent months, Joan Laporta has repeated in different interviews that he refused an offer of 250 million euros from a major European club for his prodigy and according to the Catalan press, this offer came from PSG, which the club has always denied, even if he obviously appreciates the player's qualities, like all the big clubs in the world.
This Friday, the Catalan daily Mundo Deportivo reveals that Parisian interest in Lamine Yamal does not date from the year 2024 and that PSG had already tried its luck in 2023, just before Yamal celebrated his 16th birthday (July 13, 2023 ) and signs his first professional contract with Barça in October 2023.
PSG tempted Yamal before he signed pro at Barça
According to the Catalan daily, PSG had made a huge offer to their agent at the time Ivan De La Peña and the idea was to get him back for free in the summer of 2023, once he turned 16. Barça coach at the time, Xavi Hernandez would then have worked hard to convince Yamal to stay in his training club.
The Spanish coach would have promised Yamal to launch him into the pros if he in return promised to extend his term at the club. On April 29, 2023 against Betis, Xavi launched Yamal at the age of 15 years, 9 months and 16 days, making him the youngest player in Barça history. On October 2, 2023, Yamal returned the favor by signing his first professional contract until 2026 with a release clause set at 1 billion euros.
In the meantime, Yamal had entrusted his interests to the powerful Jorge Mendes and the player's current contract would provide for an automatic extension until 2030 once he reaches the age of majority, in the summer of 2025. It is therefore difficult to imagine Lamine Yamal leaving Barça and join PSG in the short or medium term.
