Memphis Depay’s magnificent free kick with Corinthians

Memphis Depay (30) scored his first goal with Corinthians with a sumptuous free kick on Thursday during the victory against Athletico Paranaense (5-2) in the league.

Memphis Depay (31) opened his account in his fifth match with Corinthians. The Dutch striker scored his first goal under his new colors with a magnificent free kick from thirty meters which lodged in the top corner of the opposing goal, Thursday during his team’s victory against Athletico Paranaense (5- 2) in the championship. His goal allowed his team to regain the lead after squandering a two-goal advantage just before the break.

“The team must find spaces for me to score goals”

“Scoring my first goal means everything to me,” rejoiced the former player of and Barça in particular. “The way they welcomed me from the start, it’s all very beautiful for me. I try to help the fans, the club and the team as much as I can. But we have to look at ourselves and We need to improve.”

The Dutch international, who joined Corinthians last September after being released by Atlético de Madrid, pointed out the defensive errors of his partners after the two goals conceded before the break. “We already talked a bit at half-time, because we can’t allow this to happen,” he regretted. “But I think we are together, the fans are there. And after the goal they gave us extra strength to win.”

“I am a player who likes to score goals and I try to adapt, the team also has to adapt because they have to find spaces for me to score goals, of course,” he concluded . “I hope it will be the first of many, but the most important thing today is that we took three points.” After 30 days, Corinthians are only in 16th place in the Brazilian championship. In recent days, the media UOL Esporte suggested that Depay’s adventure in Brazil could already be compromised due to the possible loss of a club sponsor, a sports betting company unauthorized in Brazil which finances the significant emoluments of the former PSV player.
