Vincent Brunet, coach of CM Bassens in the Talk: “Extremely proud to play the Girondins in the 5th round of the Coupe de France. Now there is disappointment regarding the day of the match, a Monday evening, because there was the French team playing at the same time. I have regrets about the fervor even if I appreciated the presence of the ultras in the background for the atmosphere at the stadium. It was an honor for us to play this great club.
We always have in the back of our minds the possibility of the feat. But we keep our lucidity and our championship to build. A lot of people watched this match, so I didn’t want to take 6. There was solidity to show. I have boys who got through it, and who at 6 p.m. finished their work day, they were rinsed (the match was played on Monday evening at 8:30 p.m., Editor’s note).”
“It’s still a great experience that’s wasted”
He continues: “I’m going to be very frank with you. This match for me, who grew up with the exploits of the Girondins against AC Milan, is an institution for the Girondins, with miles traveled across France. Last night, I was flat on the match. I was there, I liked it, but I had better feelings against Angoulême in front of our audience last season. The boys came home quickly, as they were working the next morning. We can bring together two to three hundred people in the championship in Bassens. It’s a big disadvantage to play behind closed doors for us amateurs. It’s a disaster for us not to be able to play in front of an audience. It’s still a great experience that’s wasted. The best moment was communing with the ultras after the match.”
Bordeaux beat Bassens 3-0.
