France is full of young talents within its championship. It is even a trademark making the French elite a reference in the field within the five “big 5” championships.
The official Ligue 1 website publishes a study on the subject which highlights this French specificity. Thus, the League has 55 players under the age of 20 lined up this season, which is more than double that in the Bundesliga and La Liga. (23 players)in Serie A (22 players) as well as in the Premier League which comes in last place in this ranking with 20 players under the age of 20 used this season.
The elite team which has had the most players under the age of 20 playing is Montpellier HSC. However, Montpellier is not the team that has offered the most playing time to its young players (564 minutes in total). This is also just more than the total playing time of Mathis Amougou in Saint-Etienne (541 minutes). The young Greens midfielder is even on the podium of players under 20 with the most playing time behind Guillaume Remains (TFC – 630 minutes) et Valentin Atangana (Stade de Reims – 599 minutes). Olivier Dall’Oglio has already used four players under the age of 20 this season for a total playing time of 786 minutes. In this area of playing time, it is Stade de Reims which comes first with 1,161 minutes played for the five players under the age of 20 appearing on Ligue 1 pitches. AS Monaco comes just behind with 1 016 minutes played for four players.
AS Saint-Étienne’s next opponent, Racing Club de Lens is not banking on youth with no player under 20 and therefore zero minutes of play offered.
