Goalkeeper for AS Saint-Etienne for more than a decade, Jérémie Janot has experienced numerous derbies. He has some good and bad memories of these matches against OL.

In a little less than a month, the derby is back in Décines. This should logically be without Saint-Etienne supporters, but after two years of absence, Parc OL will once again welcome theAS Saint-Etienne. Off the pitch, the derby has already started, and not necessarily in the best way, with the tags registered on the Greens store. Some will say that it is part of folklore, but the antagonism between the two clubs was very different in the early 2000s. Among the main protagonists, Jérémie Janot remembers very well “that at the time, we could afford to stay in a room. Today, that is no longer the case”.

The former Greens goalkeeper was never the last to do so, like this jersey from theAC Milan carried to just after removing theOL in the Champions League. “The next match, I put on the AC Milan jersey. They (the Lyonnais) took it badly anyway (smile). They took it badly (laughs), he conceded in Tout le Sport. More often than not, I had my captain, Julien Sablé, who told me during warm-ups: ‘Jérémie, don’t worry.’ I replied: ‘I promise, I’m not sleeping.’ And as soon as I crossed the corridor to go onto the field, I forgot everything (smile).”

Now goalkeeper coach for the Espoirs team, Jérémie Janot lived with Alexandre for more than two months Lacazette and Rayan Cherki for the 2024 Olympic Games. Did they remember certain clashes between theOL and theASSE ? The two Lyonnais were not on the field at the time, but they inevitably have within them the images of the Geoffroy-Guichard derby with ’s victory in 2004 at the end of added time thanks to Sidney Govou. “I had such frustration to be the first to save a penalty from Juninho and in the end there was a goal anyway… There is a frustration that comes out straight away, there is the post right in in front of me. It’s spontaneous, it’s not calculated and I put both feet on the post. What would have happened if the goal had collapsed?
