When the current owner of the Dogues de Lille arrived in the North, the debt found by Olivier Létang amounted to 400 million euros. Since then, Gérard Lopez, the former owner of Lille, has been regularly targeted by Olivier Létang when it comes to talking about club management. During his exchange with Jacques Vendroux, Olivier Létang declared that the debt left after the departure of the current owner of Bordeaux has been erased from the shelves.
“We found the club which was a minefield”
Olivier Létang on Europe 1: “A club is a responsibility because we are talking about heritage, territory, therefore things which are very important (…) the club will celebrate its 80th anniversary in November. He should have died at 77, so We can all be very, very proud of the work that has been done. It will be 4 years in December and while maintaining a significant sporting performance on the field.
This is indeed one of the things we are proud of, because if we look in the mirrors, we found the club to be a minefield. So it’s really something to be proud of, everything we’ve achieved over the last 4 years. But the story is not over. We have written a new page and we indeed hope that we will have new ones. Even more beautiful in the months and years to come.”
“The club would find itself in a state of suspension of payments in January 2021”
“This club, let’s not be afraid of words, I said it publicly, the club was going to find itself in a state of insolvency in January 2021, as happened in Mouscron with the same owner, as it takes place in Bordeaux with always the same owner.
So you have to know that the club really came very, very close to the correctional system and start from these bases which were once again something very complex. But I’ve already talked about it a lot and I think that for our supporters, which is important once again, and in this activity, I prefer to talk about positive things, positive dynamics.”
Finally, he announces that the large debt found after the departure of Gérard Lopez is no longer relevant.
“We are a big club, but we experienced the difficulties that you know with the 400 million debts that we had. Last week, we effectively eliminated all the debt that we had.”
