WebGirondins: How did you react after this draw?

Vincent Brunet: I was quite surprised even though I knew that there were still some big cars left. Being a big supporter of the Girondins I was very enthusiastic. We were very happy, both among those around us and among the players.

“We are known for being quite strong in the Cup. We prepare a lot for this type of match”

How long have you been coaching CMO Bassens?

I am starting my second season at the head of the first team. I have been an educator since the age of 21 in different clubs in the area. We moved up to R2 this season. Last season was very long, and we managed to reach Regional 2 on the last day. It was trying. We had a great season overall.

How are you going to prepare for this meeting against the Girondins with your players?

It will be exceptional, even if we will not have any different preparation than usual. I am also a mental coach in addition to having my coaching diplomas. I try to work on the approach to our matches. We are very serious about this and we are known for it. We do 3 sessions per week, video analysis of Girondins matches. We try to find areas of intervention, and we adapt our sessions according to the context. We’re going a little outside of our game plan to adapt to this big engine by contextualizing the training sessions.

“A different approach to the match if Andy Carroll plays”

What state of mind are your players in?

I am quite surprised by their attitude. We use the experience acquired last season as a springboard with a run in the Coupe de , 6 rounds played and an elimination against Angoulême (0-5). We brought together 1,200 people at the stadium. In addition, we also played a round of 16 of the Coupe d’Aquitaine, and the final of the District Cup. We are known to be quite strong in the Cup. We prepare a lot for this type of match. Players rely on this experience. I feel them relaxed, and so do I. Bordeaux is a prestigious club, but it remains a National 2. We held back against Angoulême for 30 minutes last year, and we missed a penalty at 0-0. We pushed them around.

What type of match do you expect against Bordeaux?

I have different approaches. We are going to face a conquering team. Bruno Irlès likes to conquer and press high. The approach to the match will be totally different depending on whether Andy Carroll plays or doesn’t play. I watched the match against Seudre-Océan. We have different scenarios, and we adapt to the opponents in the position. We expect a strong presence from Bordeaux in our half. We’re working on it this week.

“We’re sending the message that it’s possible”

Do you say to yourself: in a match everything is possible despite 3 divisions difference? Is this the message you send to your players?

Yes, completely. That’s the watchword of the week. We are sending the message that it is possible. We respect this great club which is a big force in National 2, but it remains a National 2. We will have to be strong in all sectors, and make the perfect match. We have to be at 120% in all areas. If we play at the JA Moueix stadium in , which has seen exploits in the Coupe de France, we say to ourselves, why not us. (We do not yet know the location of the match at the time of this interview, Editor’s note)

Are you preparing to play behind closed doors?

Yes, we are also considering this scenario so as not to be too disappointed. I act as if the match was at home without spectators. However, we would like to welcome our public and make it open to all. It would be a disaster for our region not to know how to organize a football match between Bordeaux residents on our territory with the public.

Do you film your matches with the Véo system?

Yes, even if I don’t have the latest version which allows me to film the meetings live. I hope this meeting will also be filmed and broadcast live.
