Roberto De Zerbi’s firm stance after Leonardo Balerdi’s failed start to the season

After his captain’s mixed start to the season, Roberto De Zerbi would not have hidden his annoyance. The Leonardo Balerdi case would irritate him especially because of the high esteem he has for his defender.

Olympique de does not start with the best bases in defense. Roberto De Zerbi had to field seven different defenses in seven matches and his men achieved only one clean sheet. One of the unfortunate architects of this failed start is Leonardo Balerdi. Sent off against OL (2-3), the Marseille captain was also at fault on several goals and conceded opportunities.

This start to the Argentine international’s season would slightly worry De Zerbi. The carelessness of his basic man in the central hinge would be taken seriously and would have been singled out by the Marseille staff. Balerdi would have been forced to recover, especially since the Italian technician appreciates him humanly and sportingly.

De Zerbi should find density in his group. The Phocéens tactician would be confident of being able to count on the returns of Quentin Merlin and Bamo Méïté to return from injury. The first in particular demonstrated great qualities in the role of hybrid full-back and had a superb start to the season. Ulisses Garcia surprisingly performed well in the interim, once again becoming his official understudy.

Mïté does not seem to have completely convinced his coach and would still oscillate between the axis and the right side as a replacement.
