Osame Sahraoui already too strong to be a replacement?

Landed at LOSC at the beginning of August, Osame Sahraoui has since continued to gain momentum. First coming off the bench then increasingly starting, can the left winger settle down permanently in Bruno Genesio’s starting lineup at the expense of Rémy Cabella ? Attempt to answer.

Osame Sahraoui has arguments to put forward

With him, it’s more like two times than one. Already author of a splendid ladle to serve Jonathan David in (0-2, 35′), Osame Sahraoui did it again a week later against for Angel Gomes (1-1, 57′), this time in front of his home crowd. In the meantime, the Oslo native had consolidated his team’s historic success against Real Madrid before being called up for the first time with Morocco the next day. To say that we had a less happy week would be an understatement.

This could only be the beginnings of a successful adventure at LOSC. It started on excellent bases, the left winger was very active on the left flank of the northern attack, both in his ability to make differences alone and to combine with his teammates, and as well coming off the bench only with starting status. So many increasingly solid arguments to apply for a place in the starting lineup, where the position is currently occupied by Rémy Cabella. Still at the level, the 34-year-old attacking midfielder is however showing himself to be a bit less impactful and influential at the start of the season.

Rotation to please everyone?

Questioned by us after the victory against Toulouse about the competition for this position and the rise to power of Osame Sahraoui, Bruno Genesio tempered: “ Osame is a very young player who arrives from the Dutch championship. He needs to adapt, particularly to French life and the language. He speaks English, it’s already quite easy for him – except with me, since I don’t speak English very well (smile). He is on an upward slope and delivered another great performance this (Saturday) evening. I saved him on Wednesday (Real Madrid) because the sequence of matches is currently difficult for him. He gave everything and was decisive again. At the end, it was a little cooked so it came out. These are young players who need time and who are discovering what the very high level is. You have to be demanding, but also forgiving. Osame is making good progress, so it’s interesting ».

For the moment, Bruno Genesio does not seem to have decided on any preference. Perhaps a blessing in disguise for the technician who, between the difference in profile or the difference in experience and background, has two options, both complementary and relevant depending on the context (adversary, issue, physical condition). And which will not be too much given the XXL schedule of LOSC, which has already played 13 matches in two months of competition and whose pace will not necessarily slow down in the coming months.
