On Inter, the Sud Ouest journalist Vincent Romaincommented on the fact that the debt has continued to increase at the Girondins de since the takeover of the Americans, just like the deficits.

“The wall becomes inevitable. And what’s more, where the American owners haven’t had much luck, it must be said, is that there was Covid and the failure of Médiapro… All in all, it’s as if there had been a very bad alignment of planets. Everything came together for the club to initially crash at least financially, and to be put up for sale, and therefore bought in 2021 by Gérard Lopez.”

Was there personal enrichment on the part of certain leaders during the American period?

“In any case, no legal action has been launched, but the least we can say is that there are suspicious movements of money. In any case, there was a very comfortable lifestyle. When they slept at the big hotel in Bordeaux, while an apartment was rented by the club for its managers… It really doesn’t make any sense. There are agent commissions which are very suspect, enormous salaries which were paid to players who did not even deserve a third of them. All this raises a bit of a question, but ultimately it’s rather legal because you can’t do anything in France within the club. There was a legal department that monitored everything… In fact, each time, they managed to play with the limits so as not to fall into illegality.”
