Hansi Flick has confirmed the reason behind his decision to bench Lamine Yamal during Barcelona’s La Liga clash with Osasuna.
The Blaugrana saw their impressive start to the season end in Pamplona, as they lost 4-2 at the break. Osasuna dominated Flick’s team at El Sadar and the German coach accepted responsibility for the humiliating setback.
With the schedule becoming more demanding, Flick has rotated numerous times since the midweek 1-0 win over Getafe, including Lamine Yamal on the bench.
Flick wanted to rest Yamal
It is the first time the 17-year-old has started a league match outside the starting XI this season and Flick explained his decision in a pre-match interview.
« We have to rotate because there are a lot of games in the coming weeks and we have Lamine, Raphinha and Inigo Martinez who have played a lot of minutes.”according to the proposals of Mundo Deportivo.
Flick certainly regretted his choices, but will be able to redeem himself ahead of the midweek UEFA Champions League clash against Young Boys.
