Roberto De Zerbi, the new coach of Olympique de , had attempted a big move during the summer transfer window by wanting to recruit one of his former Brighton players: Julio Enciso. This transfer, which could have marked the transfer window of OM, did not ultimately succeed, but De Zerbi’s interest in the young Paraguayan midfielder shows to what extent the coach wanted to integrate this promising player into his Marseille project.

A successful summer, but not only that

In an interview with Sport WitnessJulio Enciso revealed that De Zerbi had contacted him personally shortly after he took over at Olympique de Marseille. The Italian coach, who had coached the midfielder at Brighton, saw him as a key element to strengthen the Marseille squad. Enciso, who made 40 appearances under De Zerbi, scoring 4 goals and providing 4 assists, said the coach had great confidence in him and had designated him as his number 10. However, despite this strong connection and the mutual desire to collaborate again, the transfer did not materialise.

Enciso said: “ He called me when he came to Marseille, he wanted me, but it didn’t work out. » Despite this interest, the 20-year-old attacking midfielder remained at Brighton, where his situation has become more complicated. This season, Enciso has still not started in the Premier League, which leaves doubts hanging over his short-term future at the English club.

If Julio Enciso’s situation at Brighton does not improve, it is not out of the question that De Zerbi will try to lure him to Marseille again during the next winter transfer window. The relationship between the two men and the Italian coach’s desire to strengthen his team with players he knows well could revive this track in the near future.

So, even though the transfer fell through this summer, De Zerbi’s lingering interest in Enciso could well resurface in the coming months.
