With a match to be played late next weekend and a match postponed to Sunday, the Greens approached the reception of Limonest under pressure. Especially since faced with this adversary, a candidate for promotion, the mission promised to be difficult. Serious from the kick-off, Razik Nedder's men did not let themselves be walked on by those they had managed to catch on the first leg (2-2).
However, we had to wait until the 46th minute and the return from the break to see ASSE create its greatest opportunity. Cheikh Fall headed the opposing goalkeeper to the save and then saw his attempt at recovery being pushed back on the line. The rest of the second half was unfortunately to the advantage of the visitors who however tirelessly came up against the Stéphanois goalkeeper, Issiaka Touré, author of a very nice match. A rewarded performance… Because in added time, Kenzo Kies was launched deep by Kevin Pedro. Le Vert did not miss the opportunity to open the score at the best of times (ASSE 1-0 Limonest, 90th) ! Saint-Etienne jackpot!
This success at the finish allows the Greens to take a breath of fresh air in the standings. They will have the opportunity to make a real leap next weekend, against FC Chamalières, on the occasion of a 13th day played late.
The coach's reaction
“There were two halves: a first where we rather mastered our subject, a second much less good. I found us less comfortable in our ball exits in particular. But winning this match against a team like Limonest, a few weeks after beating Bourgoin, shows that we are a good team in a tough championship. The rankings were a little scary at kick-off… If we manage to win this match next week, we'll give ourselves some breathing room!“A new way of life.”
