The president of the Andalusian club has relayed the state of mind of most clubs in the Spanish championship since the reintroduction into the Barça squad of Spanish international Dani Olmo. His license was canceled by La Liga for lack of sufficient financial guarantees.
The provisional measure, from which Barça benefited with the assistance of the Spanish Superior Sports Council (CSD) – linked to the Ministry of Sports, hence the accusations of collusion which are flourishing – to obtain the re-registration of Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, makes talk a lot in Spain. La Liga and the Federation had however estimated that the guarantees offered by the Catalan club, in the red financially, were insufficient to renew the license of these two players, whom La Liga had released from their contracts on December 30.
The CSD ended up coming to the aid of Barça who implored it by granting its request, with the precautionary suspension of the cancellation of the licenses of these two players, causing an outcry. Atlético denounced the CSD’s decision on Thursday, expressing its deep concern, like Espanyol, which for its part referred to “a very dangerous precedent”. A threat which, according to the Malaga club, “seriously endangers the integrity of the competition”.
A “tragicomedy”
Barça was forced to sell the operation of VIP seats at the Camp Nou, still under construction (around 100 million euros over 20 years), to be able to guarantee the registration of its players. Considering that Barça had not respected the deadlines to present new documents in the file, La Liga had not re-registered Dani Olmo and Pau Victor, relying on the current regulations which prevent a player from obtaining a new license in the club to which he was already linked during the same season. The president of Sevilla FC, José María del Nido Carrasco, protested through the CSD which, through this controversial measure, according to him, came to “change the rules of the game”.
“We feel very ashamed. We are extremely embarrassed by this decision, because it has changed the rules of the game,” he lamented after the ordinary general assembly of Sevilla FC on Friday. “To be able to register a player like Rubén Vargas, we had to submit to economic control, respect the limit of squad costs and obtain acceptance of our license by the Federation. In this country, if you are from Barça or of Madrid, certain rules apply to you, but if you belong to ordinary people, other rules apply to you It is very dangerous, it is a lack of respect for other players in football and. , of course, for the supporters.”
The president of La Liga, Javier Tebas, described this imbroglio as a “tragicomedy”, denouncing a “profound ignorance” of the CSD “on the regulation of licenses”, in a long letter published on the social network X. The Las Palmas club, first to publicly denounce the emergency measure granted to Barça, also expressed his “absolute disagreement”, considering that this decision constituted “a serious threat to the integrity of the competition” and “a worrying precedent which could destabilize the foundations of professional football in our country.”
