This week, football news was marked by the announcement of the departure of Didier Deschamps from the French team at the end of the next World Cup, which will take place in a year and a half in the United States, in Canada and Mexico. To replace him, the obvious choice seems to be Zinédine Zidane, but in football, a twist can never be ruled out. If Franck Haise and Bruno Genesio were announced as possible competitors, the latter clearly expressed their desire to see “Zizou” succeed “DD” in 2026.
The executives of Belgium are pushing for Henry!
But another coach could have appeared in the person of Thierry Henry. While he led the Blues to the silver medal at the last Olympic Games in Paris, the top scorer in Arsenal’s history already has the advantage of knowing how the FFF works but also of having already potentially rubbed shoulders with the future players of tomorrow, through his past as coach of the Bleuets. However, he would also be the subject of interest from another country that he knows well.
Indeed, according to Sacha Tavolieri, the executives of the Belgian team are pushing for him to be appointed in place of the much criticized Domenico Tedesco: “Thierry Henry raises a lot of questions and especially internal discussions between the executives of the Red Devils. For what ? Because we know, currently, Vincent Mannaert will decide at the end of the month who will replace Domenico Tedesco but he has not yet decided. He certainly has choices in his head that are very fixed. We can talk about Mark van Bommel, Erik ten Hag, but internally, these famous executives (Carrasco, Lukaku…) are pushing to bring Vincent Mannaert to the reflection around Thierry Henry and to consider this avenue (…) The Thierry Henry’s candidacy is therefore pushed by the players so that he becomes the new coach of the Red Devils. It is a path that is pushed by executives to become reality“. It remains to be seen whether this track will come to fruition. As a reminder, “Titi” was deputy of the Red Devils between 2016 and 2018 and between 2019 and 2021.
