“I was sanctioned with four matches for less than that”, Inigo Martinez criticizes the sanction against Vinicius

Asked to react to Vinicius’ two-match suspension for his blow to Dimitrievski during Valencia-Real Madrid, FC Barcelona defender Iñigo Martinez expressed his indignation at the lightness of the sanction.

A sanction that provokes a reaction. Vinicius’ two-match suspension following his hit on Stole Dimitrievski during Valencia’s La Liga match with Real Madrid is considered too light for many. Including Iñigo Martinez, questioned on the subject in the mixed zone after the Spanish Super Cup semi-final between FC Barcelona and Athletic Club (2-0 victory).

“I don’t think it’s fair either. There was a sanction a few years ago where, for much less, I had four matches and they don’t talk about it, while others “They have had much less. These are things that others decide and which are not in our hands”, regretted the Blaugrana central defender, visibly annoyed by the difference in treatment between his suspension and that which currently affects Vinicius.

Racist insults mentioned by Real, La Liga refutes

During the match between Valencia and Real Madrid last Friday, Vinicius was sent off after punching Valencia goalkeeper Stole Dimitrievski in the face, responding to a slight provocation from his opponent. After review of the VAR, the Brazilian received a red card, but the incident was not listed as an assault by the referee in his report. This allowed him to reduce his suspension from 4 to 12 games to just two games, and he will not have to serve this sanction during the Spanish Super Cup.

On the Real Madrid side, management worked to have the red card canceled, as during the previous Valencia-Real match where Vinicius was also sanctioned. But the maintenance of the sanction was very badly received, Carlo Ancelotti justifying that “it is very hard to be Vinicius on a pitch” and that it is “not fair”. In an attempt to justify the blow suffered by its player, the club explained that he had been the victim of racism. An accusation that La Liga refutes, communicating on the absence of racist remarks recorded during the entire meeting.
